Weeds that appear on lawns are a problem for virtually every garden owner. Unwanted plants unfortunately disfigure the manicured green area and are quite difficult to remove.
To reduce their occurrence, first of all, remember to regularly mow, water and fertilize the lawn. However, if they begin to appear, it is useful to know effective ways to get rid of unwanted plants.

ToggleIf there are not too many weeds and they are in a small area, then we can first reach for a mechanical way to remove them. We can perform such a procedure manually or with special tools. Choosing this method, we will get a satisfactory result almost immediately. The weeds we collect can be used to make a decoction or manure, which we will feed to the plants. Importantly, in order to get rid of weeds completely, we must pull them out together with the roots or rhizome. If we leave even small parts of the plant in the ground, it will be able to grow again and the whole treatment will be ineffective.
It is good to remove weeds immediately after the rain, when the ground is loosened. Then even plants that have their roots deep will come out without a problem. We can also invest in useful tools, i.e. all kinds of weed pullers, narrow shovels, undercutters, knives. Boiling water also turns out to be helpful for weeds. Pour it on the plant, then, when it dies, get rid of it. Chemical agents should be a last resort, as they are harmful to humans, animals and plants.
If the manual method of getting rid of weeds from the lawn has proved insufficient, because there are too many of them, then you need to reach for chemical means. Importantly, always use them according to the recommendations that the manufacturer has put on the package. Herbicides are characterized by their high effectiveness. Before establishing a lawn, you can use contact herbicides, although on an existing green area you should choose selective herbicides. Systemic herbicides are absorbed by dicotyledonous plants, that is, also lawn weeds. They work by interfering with the life processes of these plants. They lead to intensive growth of the plants, which eventually leads to their death. Such measures, however, do not work very quickly. Complete destruction of unwanted plants can take about 2 months, after which time the aboveground and underground parts of the plants die. The effect of such products depends on weather conditions, on proper preparation and application. The ground should be moist and the air temperature should be positive. If there are to be frosts or the soil is excessively dry, then it is advised to wait with this treatment. If the soil is not very fertile, it is advisable to fertilize the lawn about 2 weeks before the application of herbicides. Before spraying, the lawn should not be mowed, as it is the weed leaves that absorb the largest amount of herbicide. It is advisable to perform the treatment during favorable weather conditions, so that it does not rain immediately afterwards, which would rinse the agent from the plants.
A good way to reduce the growth of weeds is to properly care for the green area. First of all, we should remember to fertilize and water the lawn. Proper mowing height is also not without importance. Lawn weeds germinate only in good sunlight, blades of grass about 4 cm high are a good shading barrier that will limit their germination.
